How TuneNepal handles your privacy
Last updated: 12 October 2025
1. What this policy covers
This policy explains the personal data we collect when you visit, sign up for, or interact with TuneNepal on the web. It also covers optional emails, radio favourites, article interactions, and any feature that references this page. If we launch something new that requires additional data, we will describe it here first.
2. Information we collect automatically
• Our hosting platform stores short-lived request logs that include the page requested, timestamp, an IP-derived country or region, device type, and browser headers. We consult those logs only to troubleshoot reliability or security issues, and they auto-delete within a short window.
• Our privacy-conscious analytics tool reports aggregated page views, referrers, device types, and high-level geography; we do not receive raw IP addresses.
• To prevent abuse and diagnose outages, our backend retains limited error traces and rate-limit events for a short period before rotating them out.
3. Information you choose to share
• Account details: name, email, hashed password, country, preferred language, and any profile fields you update.
• Personalisation choices: followed sources or topics, saved articles, favourite radio stations, notification preferences, and article interaction signals (views or clicks) that link to your account or anonymous identifier.
• Messages you send us via feedback forms, support email, or other contact channels.
• Optional email programmes: if you subscribe to a newsletter when it launches, we store the address until you unsubscribe.
4. On-device storage & cookies
We rely on first-party authentication cookies to keep you signed in and protect your session. We also use localStorage to remember your language, theme, and a random anonymous ID for article analytics. You can clear or block these from your browser; doing so may sign you out or reset your preferences.
5. How we use your information
• Deliver core product features like personalised feeds, radio playback, and saved lists when you opt in.
• Send transactional messages such as verification emails, password resets, or service announcements.
• Diagnose crashes, enforce our terms of service, and prevent automated abuse.
• Study aggregated trends so we can prioritise coverage, languages, and new features.
• Comply with legal duties and respond to takedown or law-enforcement requests.
6. Service providers & international transfers
• We use audited cloud services for authentication, databases, and transactional email; passwords are hashed before storage and data is encrypted in transit and at rest.
• The web application runs on a global edge network, so requests may be routed through data centres in the European Union, the United States, India, Singapore, or other regions closest to you.
• To improve topic detection and recommendations, we may send small excerpts of article text—not reader identifiers—to trusted language-processing services.
We sign data-processing agreements with every provider, forbid resale of your information, and rely on recognised safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses when data crosses borders.
7. Retention & deletion
• News articles rotate out automatically after roughly 90 days to keep the catalogue current.
• Account data, saved preferences, and radio favourites stay active until you remove them or delete your account.
• Article interaction logs (views/clicks) are retained while they remain useful for trending and security work; we review and trim them at least annually.
• Support tickets and operational logs are stored for no longer than 12 months unless law requires more time.
8. Your privacy choices
• Update your profile, language, and saved content from Account settings.
• Turn off personalisation toggles or clear local storage if you prefer a neutral feed.
• Use the account deletion control to schedule permanent removal; we aim to erase most data within 30 days and backups within 90 days unless law requires us to keep more.
• Email privacy@tunenepal.com to request access, correction, export, or to withdraw consent. We usually respond within five business days.
9. Regional rights
• Nepal (Privacy Act 2018): You may request access, correction, or deletion of personal data. We will respond within 30 days and escalate unresolved complaints to the relevant Nepali authority if required.
• European Union / EEA / United Kingdom: You hold GDPR/UK GDPR rights including access, rectification, erasure, portability, objection, and restriction. Contact privacy@tunenepal.com and you may also lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.
• California (CCPA / CPRA): You can ask us to disclose categories of personal information we collect, request deletion, or opt out of data sharing. We do not sell personal information. Submit requests via privacy@tunenepal.com and we will respond within 45 days.
• Other regions: Reach out and we will honour mandatory privacy rights in your jurisdiction.
10. Children
TuneNepal is designed for adults. If you are under 18, use the service only with guardian consent. If we learn that we hold data about a child without permission, we will delete it.
11. Updates & contact
We timestamp updates to this page and announce material changes in-product or by email. Questions, concerns, or complaints? Write to privacy@tunenepal.com or support@tunenepal.com.
